THE POLICE全曲集BOX。1986年のベスト盤『Every Breath You Take-The Singles』で活動を停止して以降、92年のベスト盤『Greatest Hits』以来となる作品。基本的には全曲集で、全5枚のオリジナルアルバム収録曲、インディーズでの1stシングル、アルバム未収録のB面、コンピ盤収録音源を時系列に収録。オリジナルアルバム5作は全てアルバムの曲順通りに収録されているが、今作はCD1枚に入るだけ詰め込んでいるためアルバムごとには分けられておらず合計4枚組となっている。98年、01年に再発されている。

今作にも未収録になった音源が存在し、「De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da」のスペイン語、日本語バージョン、「Wrapped Around Your Finger」USプロモーション盤収録のライブ音源、「Can's Stand Losing You」の80年のコンピ盤収録のライブ音源、18thシングルB面のライブ音源やdance mix、14thシングルイギリス限定2枚組盤の2枚目に収録されたもう1つの音源「Truth Hits Everybody(Remix)」などが未収録となっている。

2018年に最新リマスターでLPで発売され、2019年にCD化された『Every Move You Make:The Studio Recordings』は今作に代わる新たなBOX作品となったがそちらはオリジナルアルバム5枚+アルバム未収録集という6枚組となっていて、アルバム未収録曲数に抜けが多い。上記黄色でまとめた音源となるコンピ盤のみ収録曲とライブ音源は『Every Move You Make:The Studio Recordings』に未収録。しかし今作未収録の「Truth Hits Everybody(Remix)」が『Every Move You Make:The Studio Recordings』に唯一収録された。

というわけで「Truth Hits Everybody(Remix)」が無い以外は今作の方がより多くの楽曲を網羅できる。しかし今作はCD1枚に入るだけ詰め込んでいるため一応曲順通りではあるが、オリジナルアルバム単位で聞くことはできずただ曲が詰め込まれている資料集に近い体裁。『Every Move You Make:The Studio Recordings』を聞いた後に入ってない曲を聞く目的で今作を図書館で借りてきたが、93年盤、01年再発盤共にCDだけで解説も何もかも盗まれていたのでとりあえず当初の目的である未収録音源(黄色)だけ聞いた。最初と最後のシングルである「Fall Out」は07年のベスト『THE POLICE』(邦題が92年のベストと同じ『グレイテスト・ヒッツ』なのでややこしい)、「Don't Stand So Close to Me '86」は86年のベスト『Every Breath You Take-The Singles』とリニューアル再発した『Every Breath You Take:The Classics』にも収録されている。しかしそれ以外は今作でしか聞けないと思われ、一応どれがそれに該当するのかまとめておく目的で感想ページも作っておいた。

ライブ音源と他のベストでも聞ける「Fall Out」と「Don't Stand So Close to Me '86」を除くとサントラ盤『Brimstone & Treacle』の3曲、1stB面の「Nothing Achieving」くらいしか案外残らない。しかもサントラ盤『Brimstone & Treacle』は2曲がインストだったりもするので、正直新たに聞ける曲としてはそこまででもなかった。

リマスターといっても93年で今やほとんど最古に近く各オリジナルアルバム、ベスト盤でのリマスターがこの後も散々出ている事、資料集的な体裁である事から未収録が多くても『Every Move You Make:The Studio Recordings』の方がオリジナルアルバム単位で聞けるし、これから集めるにはかさばらないし、音もいいし、良いのではないかと。
